The End

Hey there. My name is Halo. Whomever you are, wherever you are, and however you’ve stumbled across this site, I just want to say thank you for visiting.  Now, since you happen to be here reading this now, I would assume you know or heard about something called “Snailschat” or “Snaildom”. If not, I will just cut to the chase. Those are the names of the games that a young person called Damen Spike created between the years of 2013-14. They were virtual worlds similar to popular ones such as Club Penguin or Chobots. This blog you are on right now was once notable for providing users new information about these games while they were still active. These games were both very short lived, and unfortunately so was this blog.

This specific blog was created around May 2013, shortly after the opening of when Snailschat first publicly released. The URL comes from the user who created it, secretrsnail. I was once friends with this user during that time and he invited me to work here while I still had my own blog. This blog was very short lived, as after the last post in June 2013 it went completely dead until I decided to post here again around August 2015 (I later merged my old posts at my own blog here after its closure). At this point, I had no idea where the creator of this blog went nor did we stay in touch. The last time I had spoken to him was in 2013 when this blog was still active.

As I said, I once had my own blog as well.  It was active at the URL haloplayer2k.wordpress.com, but has since shut down in August 2015 shortly before I decided to post here again. My blog was fairly popular during Snailschat’s original era, as I promoted it heavily. I created it in May 2013 shortly after I joined Snailschat, and it quickly became popular because of the cheats and glitches you couldn’t find anywhere else. It became defunct just like this blog as SC started to decline during the summer of 2013. However, I came back a year later to post about SC’s successor, Snaildom. Personally, I believe this game wasn’t that great. It had an interesting concept and it was far more popular than the original SC, but it just didn’t stick. The game definitely did stay up wayyyy longer than SC and even the remake, but the popularity declined just as fast as it increased and soon enough nobody played it anymore. Anyway, I would post about new content about Snaildom and even the OldCP on my own blog occasionally. I did so until early 2015 when Snaildom Original (let’s call it original because it was first made in 2014-15, and the remake a year later) shut down. Later during the summer of that year, I closed my blog. I was planning to work on something new, but things backfired and the blog shut down for good. I regret that mistake entirely, and I really wish I could see it again once last time. But I can’t. So that forced me to post here again.

I somehow found out later in August 2015 that Damen decided to remake Snailschat. This made me really happy. So happy, it made me come back to this blog to post about it. I got to see my account from 2013 all over again. So just like my younger self again, I played the heck out of that game. Seeing all the users active on it again made it even more fun. However, I somehow knew people were only excited about it opening and they would never intend on playing it regularly afterwards. I was right. Just like its original fate and eventually Snaildom’s, it died. There were just never enough users who cared about these games to keep it alive. I just don’t know why, Snailschat had so much potential that it didn’t reach at the time. Everything was great about it- the art, concept, and community. There was just a lack of support for it. This leads me to some unanswered questions… Would Snailschat still be alive if it was active for all this time? How would Snailschat fare in 2017? Guess we wouldn’t know for sure now.

Looking back, I just remember all these fond memories this brought me. I was only 13 years old when I first played Snailschat. Now I am headed off to university. So, why all of this? Why now? I feel that I’ve never “officially” created a goodbye message nor did I ever have the time to do so. It was clear at that point were everything was headed: OldCP. The one thing keeping the Damen Spike community alive. I don’t have anything against OldCP, it’s a great game. I love the original Club Penguin. I also understand it was one of the first projects Damen’s created. However, nothing he will ever make again will receive the amount of popularity, credibility, and love that OldCP has.Whenever a game he made has risen and fallen, OldCP was there to stay. You can say that to the all the 20-something remakes of the game. I just wanna say one thing though: the SC and SD community is totally different from the OldCP community. I don’t know if this is one of the reasons I don’t play OldCP or not, but with the SC community I felt very comfortable. I knew most people. Playing OldCP, it’s a huge community that feels harder to stand out if you are new or are unrecognized. Not to mention that “royal” thing or whatever going on in that game completely ruins the mood of playing original Club Penguin, which I might add, CANNOT be matched again. I know it’s still up and running, and I do have an account on there which I barely use anymore.

If you have made it this far, I just want to thank you for reading what I have had to say. I do hope one day Snailschat returns and if it does, I can’t guarantee that I’ll make it. Many of us have grown up now, and I’m no longer a senior middle school child playing games like I used to. Soon I will restore some old archives that were once listed on this website. It was almost like a blog-wiki, with many pages about information on items. I just want to thank Damen Spike, for creating a wonderful game I once played many years ago. I don’t even think he remembers me, but I’ll add in the fact that I was a SC moderator if it helps. And to those who were in the original community and you think you’ve known or even heard of me, give me a shout out. I’d love to communicate with some old buddies again. I wish the best of luck to the new community and OldCP, and hope one day we can play another game that’ll be just as good or even better than SC!

Signing off,

The Royal Mistake

Hey guys. I originally wasn’t going to post this because this isn’t Snailschat related but since this is a tragedy and probably the most important event in DSGHQ, I thought I should. Anyways, most of you in the DSGHQ community know that there was a royal wedding between Damen Drake and Chelsey today on September 27, 2015 on OldCP. I wasn’t able to join because the server was full. So I just headed back to my favorite game instead. About half hour into the wedding, something supposedly went wrong. According to some people, Damen accidentally changed everyone’s name to his own. Thus, OldCP shut down so they could try to fix this this problem. The OldCP page originally said that all accounts created after March 2015 needed to be remade. Now just a few minutes ago, the page updated to this:

UPDATE: OldCP is back up and running! You will need to remake your account.

Well, I guess this isn’t all that bad. Because someone posted a mood on the forums to come on Snailschat instead, and then there were 10+ people on at once! So, go Snailschat! But such a tragedy that this happened. Unfortunately, this is all we know at the moment because we weren’t actual witnesses at that time. Since OldCP seems to be reseting, I guess I will say that I will NOT be remaking another account again. What do you think about the biggest fail in DSGHQ history? Stay tuned for more updates on this royal disaster.
